The founding document of Anonymous alcoholics organization, also known as the “Big Book“, was sold at the auction to the billionaire and owner of Indianapolis Colts, Jim Irsay, for $2,4 million.
Profiles in History, the auction house announced that the manuscript with the notes of the founders of the organization was sold yesterday.
Irsay said he wants to make a special exhibition space for the manuscript and for a few months a year keeps it at the headquarters of Anonymous Alcoholics in New York.’
According to him, he was considering whether to buy an “Big Book” anonymously but that he decided to go public in order to try to alleviate the stigma of alcoholism and addiction.
He said that at the meeting of Anonymous alcoholics, he first went 25 years ago and admired the scope of the organization and what the founders have built.
This is the third sale of a 161-page document. At first, in 2004, it reached the price of $1,6 million, and then $850,000 in 2007.
