Jaquet Droz Tropical Bird Repeater is the latest creation of mechanical artistry from the La Chaux-de-Fonds manufacture, celebrating the company’s 280th anniversary.
The dial on the Jaquet Droz Tropical Bird Repeater is made of of mother of pearl, hand-engraved and hand-painted to depict a lush forest scene.
When the minute repeater function is activated, there are seven animated elements on the dial which spring to life: a flowing waterfall; a hummingbird buzzing toward a shock of bright orange birds of paradise, its wings beating up to 40 times a second; a toucan emerging from palm leaves at three o’clock; the iridescent blue-green tail of a peacock opening and closing at five o’clock; and three dragonflies at nine o’clock whose glow-in-the-dark wings owe their magical appearance to a coating of Super-LumiNova. The animations can exceed 12 seconds and play out four different scenarios.
The off-center hours and minutes are displayed on a black onyx subdial decorated by hand. The hand-wound mechanical movement has a 60-hour power reserve.
The watch comes on a rolled-edge dark green alligator strap which nicely matches the flora in the depicted scene.
