The auction house Julien’s Auctions will sell Ford Thunderbird from 1956, which belonged to the legendary American actress, singer and model Marilyn Monroe.
Thunderbird was in her possession from 1955 to 1962, and shortly after she bought it, she married to Arthur Miller, an American drama writer, an essayist and significant figure in the American theater in the 20th century.
The couple was riding in this car on the day of the civil wedding on June 28, 1956, and probably on the day of the private wedding ceremony on June 30 of the same year.
Monroe owned the Thunderbird until 1962 when she gave it as a gift to John Strasberg, the son of her acting coach Lee Strasberg. This happened a few months before her tragic death.
In addition it was owned by a celebrity, Thunderbird is an icon in itself. It is the first generation of a two-seater sports car, but it did not advertise itself as a sporty one, as opposed to rivals Corvette, but as a luxury model, creating a new market known as “personal luxury cars”.
Under the hood is a V8 engine that delivers 225 hp enough to accelerate the car to 182 km/h. This is not much in accordance with today’s standards, but it should be kept in mind that the car was manufactured in 1955.
The auction will be held on November 16 and 17 this year in Los Angeles. It is expected that the car will be sold at a price between $300,000 and $500,000.
