Faberge Soccer Tribute Eggs
Two Faberge Eggs created to honor two soccer players, Celtic legend Jimmy Johnstone and Manchester United’s George Best are being auctioned off by McTear’sAuctioneers in Glasgow, Scotland. The eggs, which have a silver and gold figure of each of the players inside, could fetch between £20,000 ($32,500) and £25,000 ($40,500) each, auctioneers estimate.
Crafted in enameled the eggs are accented with silver and gold. You can open the egg to find a silver and gold figurine of the players inside. The eggs also spot the official crest used by teams in the year 1986. The eggs were created by Sarah Faberge, the great grandaughter of Russian Imperial Jeweler Carl Faberge and go up for sale on March 3.
The Jimmy egg is one of 19 specially created by the renowned goldsmiths in 2005 and is owned by life-long Celtic fans David and Pauline McGinty. The Best egg, which has been put up for auction by an anonymous seller, is one of a series of 68. Both eggs are number 14 in their series. [McTear’s Auctioneers]
