A rare LeBron James trading card sold for a record-breaking $1.845 million at auction over the weekend
The card featuring double Olympic basketball gold medallist attracted 34 bids over the course of the 26-day sale conducted by Goldin Auctions.
The card comes from the 2003-2004 National Basketball Association (NBA) season, following James being selected by the Cavaliers with the top pick in the draft.

According to the NBA, the signed card was one of only 23 produced and received a “9.5 mint gem” condition grading. It also features a piece of James’ Cavaliers jersey. It was bought by Leore Avidar, the chief executive and co-founder of Lob.com, a San Francisco-based company which automates direct mail for businesses.
In addition to having James’ signature on it, the card also has a piece of fabric from a Cleveland Cavaliers jersey that he wore as a rookie.
It’s the most expensive basketball card ever purchased and the priciest trading card of any kind in the modern era (since 1980).
