In conjunction with the legendary E-Type’s 50th anniversary, on March 1, at the Geneva Motor Show, Jaguar will launch the new Jaguar XKR-S. The XKR-S is a bold and exciting new model for Jaguar, says Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar’s new Global Brand Director. We expect to attract both loyal and new Jaguar driving enthusiasts who still want the comfort, opulence and class only a Jaguar can offer, combined with inspirational performance.
The new Jaguar XKR-S is powered by an upgraded supercharged V8 engine developing 550PS and 680Nm of torque capable of some serious performance figures. The Jaguar XKR-S top speed is officially rated at 186mph (300km/h) and the car makers says the new model is able to get from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds, and from 0 to 100 mph in 8.6 seconds. These figures say the XKR-S is the fastest Jaguar ever and the manufacturer also say its the most agile, responsive and driver-focused. The boost in power and torque do not corrupt the agility of the standard XKR, Jaguar says. The XKR-S employs the same lightweight aluminium structure but has retuned suspension and new settings for the electronic damping and stability systems. However, the new supercar also emits under 300 g/km of CO2.
In addition to the debut, Jaguar will be marking the 50th anniversary of the E-Type with the first in a series of celebrations. The famed British marque will host an E-Type fête at the Restaurant Hotel du Parc des Eaux-Vives in Geneva, where the original car was introduced by Jaguar’s founder Sir William Lyons half a century ago.
The Jaguar XKR 75 was listed at around the £85,000 ($138,000) mark, but we’re still waiting for confirmation of prices (and an on sale date) for the XKR-S. All will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show next week.
