Discover the allure of automotive history as Gianni Agnelli’s prized possession, the 1958 Fiat 500 Spiaggina Boano, graces the auction stage at RM Sotheby’s. Once a beachside companion to the former Fiat president, this vintage Fiat 500 is set to captivate enthusiasts, with bidding anticipated to reach an impressive $315,000.
Crafted in the late 1950s by Carrozzeria Ghia’s Mario Boano at Agnelli’s request, only two examples of this bespoke Fiat 500 Spiaggina Boano were ever built. Agnelli’s vision for a roof-less, beach-ready automobile with wicker seats inadvertently sparked a trend, giving rise to iconic beach cars like the 500 Jolly, Citroen Mehari, and the Mini Moke.
Out of the two Spiaggina Boano creations, one found its way to business magnate Aristotle Onassis, while the other remained in the hands of Agnelli himself. The latter, a symbol of 1960s style, was frequently featured in magazines worldwide and enjoyed during Agnelli’s holidays in the south of France. In 1973, Agnelli passed the keys to his driver, Bernardino Aiassa.
This upcoming auction features the believed sole survivor of the Fiat 500 Spiaggina Boano duo. Discovered by a noted Turin collector after being lost for many years, this vintage gem remains in an unrestored, highly original condition, boasting a beautiful patina that adds to its desirability.
As this automotive treasure hits the auction block, anticipate a bidding war for a chance to own a piece of Gianni Agnelli’s legacy. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to bring home this iconic symbol of beachside luxury and style.
