Chrome Audi R8 Spyder V10, donated by the German automaker was auctioned off at the annual White Tie and Tiara Ball that took place last night at the home of Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish. A dazzling and unique mirror-like chromed finish has been applied to the 194mph open-top sports car especially for the occasion to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for the Elton John Aids Foundation (EJAF).
Sir Elton John’s fundraising ball really is a golden ticket event that is as glamorous as it is hugely effective in fundraising terms, commented Jeremy Hicks, Director of Audi UK. We are delighted, and enormously proud, to support it for a ninth year with the donation of what is arguably our most fittingly glamorous model, he added.
The all chrome Audi R8 V10 Spyder has fabric roof which can be folded away to let the glorious V10 bellow reach your ears unobstructed. The 5.2 litre V10 of uber cool Audi pumps out 525 horspower and 391 lb-ft of torque. The humongous engine bolted in the middle catapults the shiny sports car from 0-62 mph in 4.2 sec and on to a top whack of 194 miles per hour. This particular R8 V10 that will be auctioned off has a six-speed manual transmission.
The final bidding price for the shiny convertible is yet to be revealed but it’s likely to be significantly higher than the $161,000 that the car regularly lists for.
The June 23rd White Tie and Tiara Ball is the 13th annual event of its kind and the fundraising auction has been supported by Audi in various forms for the past eight years.
