The Divorcee Sales are newest trend of luxury shopping, cropping up all over Southern California. These sales are usually take place in the ballrooms of upscale hotels, and during them wealthy, formerly married women can get rid of their branded dresses, shoes or bags.
According to organizer, Jill Alexander, Divorcee Sales are a chance for newly divorced women to break with the past, downsize and trade baggage for cash as they embark on their single lives. This is how the initial meeting with a new client seems to play out: On a typical day, Ms. Alexander shows up at the mansion of a stranger, bringing cupcakes, tissues and a shoulder to cry on. ‘It’s very intimate,’ she said, ‘and it can get emotional.’
At a recently concluded divorcee sale in Southern California, buyers found $2,000 Chloe bags are available at a quarter of their retail price and a Diane von Furstenburg dress for as little as $30.
At one of these particular sales, Julie Spira, a former radio and Internet executive, had a lot to sell. She decided to dispense with 60 gowns, a Chanel bag and a diamond baguette necklace before selling the 4,800-square-foot home she shared with her husband. I had a very glamorous lifestyle. I had to look a certain way, Spira said. I have 60 gowns and who needs 60 gowns? It’s time for a more realistic lifestyle, she added.
This is really interesting way of good shopping! Hope it will become a trend worldwide. [The Divorcee Sale]
