Sony has announced the launch of world’s first 3D compatible head mounted display. It a kind of 3D helmet, mounted in front of the eyes to create an immersive 3D experience. Sony Personal 3D Viewer – or HMZ-T1 – product is for people who prefer solitary entertainment rather than sitting in front of a television with family or friends.
The 3D helmet is equipped with two 0.7” HD displays, using the latest organic LED technology, and also offers surround sound. Sony claims it simulates a 750” cinema. It requires the small black controller box in which the user can connect other HDMI devices such as gaming consoles or Blu-ray players. The box also features HDMI output for connecting a TV.
The price is 60,000 yen – or approximately$780.
Sony made the announcement at the IFA electronics show in Berlin, which is Europe’s largest. It also unveiled what it claims is the world’s lightest eReader, the 168g Reader WiFi, and two new Android tablet computers. [Gizmag]
