Recently been written about Bent Guitar Tables inspired by Gibson Les Paul, and this time it is about 1978 The Gibson Les Paul 25/50 Anniversary Model. There were 100 limited edition guitars created jointly by these companies and now one of have come up for sale on eBay and the owner is expecting a minimum of £100,000 ($160,000).
The 25/50 model was issued to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Les Paul model (a year late, since 1977 was actually the 25th year), and the 50th anniversary of Les Paul’s career in the music business. There were only 100 of these special guitars made with the last of the Old Gibson Flame Maple they had at the time, even the Maple they used was by then, New But Old Stock! These guitars were so wanted that they decided to make them like normal Les Pauls at a cheaper price, in Black and Tobacco Sunburst, which were very popular, but nothing like this precious Flame Top.
During the 1978 release, Tim Gentle had purchased the guitar as a part of his collection, and more so a long-term investment. After more than 30 years of keeping it in storage, with hardly any usage over these years, it has been put up for sale.
The guitar has been kept wrapped in cotton, in a flight case to protect it, in a temperature-controlled environment all these years. This guitar still has the warranty/guarantee card for the guitar from Norlin/Gibson, and the card from Gibson to apply for the Free Gibson 25/50 Belt buckle, which they gave to every 25/50 owner.
