The 13th annual RM Auctions Arizona Sale saw 140 automobiles cross the auction block, with registered bidders representing 21 countries. RM Auctions held its 2012 Automobiles of Arizona sale on January 19-20 at the Arizona Biltmore Resort in Phoenix, resulting in $25.5 million in sales and an 89% sell-through rate. Our Arizona sale proved to be a great kick start to what is shaping up as another terrific auction year. We are very pleased with the results of the sale and were delighted to welcome the world’s premiere collectors back to the Arizona Biltmore, said Rob Myers, Chairman & Founder, RM Auctions.
Top sale went to the 1957 Ferrari 410 Superamerica Scaglietti Coupe that sold for $1,815,000. The Ferrari Superamerica, serial number 0671 SA, was formerly the property of Greg Garrison. It is the only example of the 34 410 Superamericas to have been bodied new by Scaglietti, in addition to being the first new Ferrari road car to be bodied by the coachbuilder.
Cementing RM’s position as a leader in the presentation of important and historic Ferraris at auction, the sale presented no less than 10 examples from the Modenese prancing horse. A 1991 Ferrari F40 Berlinetta with less than 300 miles and originally delivered new to famed auto executive Lee Iacocca, spurred a lively bidding war in the room, achieving a record price of $781,000, while a desirable 1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spyder, s/n 16705, offered for the first time in 23 years brought $990,000, and a multi-award winning 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso Berlinetta, s/n 4459 GT, realized $979,000.
Additional sale highlights included a 1959 BMW 507 Roadster for $990,000, a 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra Roadster for $880,000 and a 1958 Porsche 356A 1600 Speedster that garnered for a strong $335,500.
