The Spanish soccer team, Real Madrid has announced its plans for launching a $1 billion luxury resort complex in the United Arab Emirates. According to its president, Florentino Perez, Real Madrid Resort Island will open its gates in January 2015 on more than 123 acres on the tiny emirate of Ras al-Khaimah.
The project has already cost $1 billion and it boasts the five-star hotel with 450 rooms and the 500-plus luxury apartments, villas and bungalows, a marina, a Real Madrid museum, a theme park and a number of sports facilities. The main attraction will be a soccer stadium that fits 10,000 people with one side views of the Persian Gulf.
The grandiose, 430,000-square-metre facility, the resort is expected to attract around one million visitors in its opening year, and Real said the UAE location makes it an ideal destination for fans in Europe as well as the Far East, adding that more than half of their estimated 300 million followers were based in Asia.
Luxury Real Madrid Resort Island will be constructed in partnership with the UAE government. The world of sports and Real Madrid again prove to have no boundaries, and football is a fantastic tool with which to make different people and cultures come together, Perez invoked the larger role of soccer in the world community when announcing the partnership.
