Shortly after the renowned German car manufacturer unveiled its 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake, news of a high-performance version of the car was leaked on the internet. Officially, Mercedes-Benz hasn’t actually taken the wraps off of the CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake, but Car & Driver stumbled across a page on Mercedes-Benz’s German-market website that showed a pair of small images.
The Mecedes-Benz CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake takes on the same figures as its four-door coupe sibling. The shooting brake is propelled by a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 which produces 557 PS (410 kW / 550 bhp) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque with the AMG Performance package while the standard engine configuration is rated at 525 PS (386 kW / 518 bhp) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. A Performance Package-equipped CLS 63 will do 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, and go on to an electronically-limited top speed of 186 mph.
Despite the impressive acceleration, don’t expect the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake to be very nimble. The Shooting Brake weighs 4,310 pounds. It will probably be more of a long-distance cruiser than a full-on sports car, but that’s alright. Anything that can hit 60 mph in under 4.0 seconds, and carry five people with their stuff, is an impressive machine.
Other AMG specific mods should include an AMG SPEEDSHIFT seven-speed automatic with a trio of modes to choose from including sport (S), manual (M) and controlled efficiency (C). The latter helps save fuel by relying on an engine stop-start system and is rated to 14.0 liters / 100 km fuel consumption in the city, with a 7.8 liters / 100 km fuel economy on the highway and with 10.1 liters / 100 km in the combined cycle. The CO2 emissions are rated at 235 g/km.
First sales will start in Europe this November, with both the regular CLS Shooting Brake and sporty CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake expected to make simultaneous showroom appearances.
