World’s tallest building is the 828-meter (2716 feet) tall Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai. In June, Chinese Company, Broad Sustainable Building (BSB) announced plans to beat this record, by constructing 10 meter (32 feet) taller skyscraper in only 90 days. Now, 838-meter (2,750 feet) skyscraper, called Sky City will be raised in the Chinese city of Changsha in the province of Hunan, but the period of construction is extended to 210 days. Even in that case, beside being the world’s tallest building, Sky City will be constructed 10 times faster than the Burj Khalifa. Also compared to $1.5 billion budget for Burj Khalifa, Sky City will cost a “mere” $628 million!
Broad Sustainable Building (BSB) said that Sky City will be so high due to its pre-fabricated assembly (up to 95% of the materials will be assembled in modular form before on-site construction even begins), but also claims it will be sustainable and earthquake proof, and its 15-cm-thick walls are heavily insulated for energy efficiency. On a whopping 1,000,000 square meters of usable space across 220 floors, can be housed over 100,000 people while incorporating retail and leisure facilities. It will also has 104 separate elevators.
According to BSB’s founder and Chairman, Zhang Yue, the foundation is scheduled to be laid in November and should be complete by March 2013.
