Although company has previously announced official confirmation that Volkswagen XL1 Concept – Vision of Tomorrow’s Car in Today’s Reality might enter production (albeit in a very limited number of copies), and today that’s finally. The German manufacturer released details and official photos serial VW XL1 which will have its premiere early next month on a traditional Motor Show in Geneva.
XL1 concept had its premiere in early 2011 at the Motor Show in Doha (Qatar Motor Show 2011). Now this serial comes like a hybrid model (combination two-cylinder 0.8L TDI diesel engine with 35 kW/48KS and 120 Nm electric motor with 20 kW/27KS and 140 Nm, the lithium-ion battery of 5.5 kWh and seventh-speed dual clutch gearbox), which according to factory data consumes only 0.9 liters of fuel per 60 miles and emits just 21 grams of CO2 per kilometer.
It is possible to run only on electric drive, and up to 30miles, while the total autonomy of up to 300miles. Top speed is limited to 100mph and acceleration from 0 to 60mph takes 12.7 seconds. The length of this two-seater is 389 cm, width 167 cm, height 115 cm, wheelbase of 222 cm, while the wheels 15 and 16 inches (with tires 115/80 R15 front and 145/55 R16 rear). XL1 characterized by low weight (795 kg thanks to carbon fiber), the air resistance coefficient 0189, and a door that opens up.
Volkswagen has announced that the first batch XL1 will be made in only 50 copies (at the factory Osnabrück, Germany), and later will produce it on demand. Price has not yet been announced.
