The New York Yankees jersey worn by Reggie Jacksonat the night he hit three home runs in the sixth and final game of the 1977 World Series will be up for sale on SCP Auctions. The white pinstripe Yankees uniform will be sold online as part of a spring collection at California based auctions house, from April 10 through April 27.
The historic jersey is selling with a minimum bid of $100,000 but it could fetch anywhere from $500,000 to $1 million. Jackson became one of only four players in baseball history to hit three home runs in a World Series game, and was an easy choice for the season’s Most Valuable Player award.
Jackson’s collection also contains other memorabilia items from Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle, and they will join the jersey in the sale.
“I collected because I was a fan, and that stuff has turned into significant value. I’ve never sold anything except my stuff, because my stuff I guess is not as important to me as some of the other things I’ve collected,” he told Bloomberg Radio.
The SCP spring collection also includes a road uniform worn by DiMaggio in 1951, and a home uniform worn by Yankees catcher Thurman Munson in 1979, the year he died in a plane crash. Non- Yankees items include a Wayne Gretzky game-worn jersey from his time with the Edmonton Oilers, and sneakers that Miami Heat forward LeBron James wore as a tribute to those affected by the December school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
Jackson said that he plans to disperse proceeds to some family membersand a portion will go to his Mr. October Foundation for Kids.
