A unique first edition of the novel “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” with the author notes, J. K. Rowling, sold for a record $228,000 at the London charity auction.
Book from the 1997 with 22 notes and 43 original illustrations by “second thoughts” and comment of writer, has reached the highest price ever for a printed book.
The auction house Sotheby’s, said that the room where the auction took place was completely silent while the buyers compete for a novel that has gone into the hands of an unidentified buyer, who competed on the phone.
At the auction was 51 first edition of book with notes and comments by the author. Income from the auction go to English PEN, which promotes freedom of expression.
Among the other “stars” at the auction were the “Matilda” by Roald Dahl illustrated by Quentin Blake, who went for $45,000, “Remains of the Day” by Kazuo Ishiguro $27,000, “Metrolend” Julian Barnes, which sold for $21,000.
“Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” is the first book in a series of seven novels about the adventures of the boy wizard. Novels have become bestseller and taken successful film franchise who worth billions of dollars.
