Julien’s Auctions offers a two days auction of sports collections and memorabilia. Sports Legends auction will be held at Julien’s Auctions gallery in Beverly Hills on Friday, May 31, 2013 and Saturday, June 1, 2013. It will be offered a selections from Harlan Werner Muhammad Ali Collection, the Whalen “Whaley” Monica World Series and All-Star Game Collection and the Collection of Elgin Baylor.
Harlan Werner have worked for the Ali family as their agent for almost 20 years. Werner collected an expansive collection of memorabilia from the “Greatest of All Time,” Muhammad Ali and will be the first time that the Werner collection will be offered at auction. Highlights from Harlan Werner’s Muhammad Ali collection include one of Ali’s iconic boxing robes worn by Ali in November and December 1981 while preparing for the last fight of his career against Trevor Berbick, coined the “Drama in the Bahamas.” The robe is also signed by the boxing legend.
Also will be offered an original 1960 Olympic torch with original canister, signed by Ali “Cassius Clay” and the bronze medal won by Italian Light Heavyweight boxer Giulio Saraudi. Other things from the collection include Muhammad Ali’s 1960 AAU National Amateur Boxing Championships “Most Outstanding Boxer” Award, a Muhammad Ali and Leroy Nieman signed and dedicated “Homage to Ali” serigraph, original hand-drawn artwork by Ali himself, autographed trunks, gloves and fight posters, and photographs featuring Ali with numerous iconic sports legends of his time, Joe DiMaggio, Jack Nicklaus, Joe Montana, Magic Johnson, Joe Frazier and Mike Tyson.
1937 All-Star Ruth Gehrig Baseball The Whalen “Whaley” Monica World Series and All-Star Game Collection is incredible collection of baseball memorabilia which Monica has amassed. Monica collection include Brooks Robinson’s complete 1969 World Series Baltimore Orioles game worn uniform, Sal Bando’s 1973 World Series Oakland A’s game worn jersey, Whitey Ford’s New York Yankees warm-up jacket, an array of hats worn in the World Series and All-Star Games by Reggie Jackson, Al Kaline, Richie Ashburn and Dave Winfield, signed game programs, and autographed baseballs which were used in batting and/or fielding practice and signed on-site at the games by the very players practicing on the field.
Other features include Monica’s autographed baseball offerings include a baseball signed on-site at the 1937 All-Star Game by a then-retired Babe Ruth and 1937 All-Stars Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio and Jimmie Foxx, a baseball signed on-site at the 1951 World Series by 34 members of both the New York Yankees and New York Giants including Joe DiMaggio, who would retire after the 1951 season, and Giants then-rookie Willie Mays; a baseball signed on-site at the 1952 World Series by members of the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Yankees including Jackie Robinson and Mickey Mantle, and a baseball signed on-site at the 1976 World Series by Cincinnati’s “Big Red Machine.”
Boxing, Baseball, Soccer, Golf, Football, Racing and Cricket also will all be offered at the auction. The legendary Baylor is one of the NBA’s 50 greatest players of all time and his collecyion includes a 1980’s sideline chair from Chicago Stadium, used as part of the Chicago Bulls team bench, game used and signed by Michael Jordan, Jordan’s 1992 game worn and signed shoes, LeBron James’ 2002-03 Saint Vincent-Saint Mary High School game worn uniform, Tiger Woods’ tournament-worn golf shirt, signed by Woods and numbered “1/1”, Sachin Tendulkar’s match-used Adidas “Master Blaster” cricket bat, a 1988 Los Angeles Dodgers World Series Ring presented to Public Relations Director Arthur E. “Red” Patterson, and autographed memorabilia from Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner and Jackie Robinson.
