RM Auctions’ London Sale, which will take place at Battersea Park, from 7-9 September, will offer one of the finest collections of sports racing cars ever to be assembled by a single owner, the Irvine Laidlaw Competition Car Collection.
The collection has been impeccably maintained with outstanding provenance and stunning history that includes some of the world’s most famous races and teams, Ecurie Ecosse, Ecurie Francorchamps, Scuderia Camoradi and the Porsche factory team, racing at circuits such as Le Mans, the Nürburgring and Daytona. Its driven by some of sports car racing’s greatest drivers, including Shelby, Hall, Gregory, Sutcliffe, Hamilton, Klass, and Frère. The highlight of the collection is the 1955 Jaguar D-Type, driven in period by Hamilton, Frère and Sutcliffe.
The collection, among others, features, a 1958 Maserati 250S, 1960 Maserati Tipo 61 ‘Birdcage’, 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Berlinetta Competizione, 1965 Porsche 904/6, 1970 Chevron B16, 1971 Chevron B19.

Irvine Laidlaw, the well-known enthusiast and owner of this incredible collection, who has taken the difficult decision to stop racing, said, “I don’t regard myself as a collector. I am a car enthusiast and as an enthusiast I want to exercise my cars regularly, rather than gloat over them in the garage. So I have decided to sell the remaining competition cars and have consigned them to RM for auction as these are international cars, and RM is able to access buyers from all over the world. Having both bought and sold cars through their auctions in the past, I know that they present cars beautifully, while researching and reporting on history correctly.
