Cruz sisters Penelope and Monica have shown their talents but this time in designing handbags for for Loewe. Set to be unveiled in November 2013, The Cruz collection was created in partnership with creative director Stuart Vevers, who will soon leave the Spanish label to become executive creative director of New York-based handbag and accessories maker Coach.
The 39-year-old Spanish beuty, Penelope posed in a new Loewe advertising campaign shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot on the roof of the Casino de Madrid in the Spanish capital.
A cross-body bag with outside pockets was designed for a woman on the go. It comes in a variety of colours, alongside accompanying purses and wallets.
“We wanted to do something special but also practical, and we wanted the design to have an unmistakable Spanish element,” Penelope Cruz told WWD, explaining how easy it is to work with her sister. “We usually like the same things. When we do the design meetings separately, we tend to choose the same materials and colours.”
“We wanted a bag which would be useful for women who need to carry many things and have them all to hand at the same time,” added Monica.
This sexy Spanish sisters duo have already worked together. In 2007, they worked on a capsule collection for Spanish high-street retailer Mango and they have recently been hard at work on “L’Agent”, a diffusion line for Agent Provocateur set to drop on August 1, 2013.
