Sir Richard Branson’s $70 million Caribbean island home was struck by lightning and battered by winds caused by Hurricane Irene in 2011. Two years later chairman of Virgin Group has announced the extensive restructure is almost finished and should be finally completed in September 2013. The 74-acre Necker Island, part of the Virgin Limited Edition collection has been inspired by the beautiful features and Balinese style of the original house. With some new and innovative twists, it boasts amazing panoramic views of the Caribbean, the Atlantic and neighbouring islands. Each bedroom in the house has its own balcony, king-size bed and en-suite bathroom.
The island can be hired exclusively for groups of up to 30 people, or if you’re not looking to hire it exclusively, you can still enjoy the Necker experience during Celebration Weeks when individual rooms can be booked by singles or couples to enjoy our fabulous island paradise ‘house party’ style.
When be reopened for guests, the island can be hired privately for £40,000 ($60,800) per night.
During the Tropical Storm Irene, Kate Winslet was there and proved to be a hero. Branson says the Oscar-winning actress carried his 90-years-old mother, Eve from the house while it was still ablaze. He joked that Winslet was wondering when a director was going to shout ‘CUT!‘
