At a time when car design is increasingly determined by economic reasons, sometimes appears a vehicle that elicit gasps and make the heart beat faster. New Concept from Volvo that was presented on the eve of the Frankfurt fair is one of those cars. This is the first Volvo signed by a new design chief, Thomas Ingenlath, and apparently the company did the right thing when hired GE. It is also the first of three scheduled multiplier concept that should showcase the new Scalable Product Architecture( SPA) platform of the manufacturer. Older and passionate fans of Volvo cars may be found in elegant and dynamic lines of the new concept the impact of P1800 coupe that was produced in 1960. As explained by its designer, the inspiration comes from there, but Ingenlath managed to avoid falling into a completely retro cliché.
“Volvo P1800 is certainly one of the icons , but when we saw this model we did not want to go back to the past but to look to the future ,” says Thomas Ingenlath. However, despite the futuristic design, it is not hard to imagine that this kind of styling the interior could be applied to the eventual production model. The use of luxury materials such as leather and wood, which are very well integrated into the basic design concept, also, not missing. Not surprisingly, the central part is a touch screen, like in the Tesla Model S.
Drive the car provides a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a 2.0 -liter E – Drive petrol engine with turbo – supercharged engine and electric motor. Maximum combined power of two engine reaches 400 hp and torque of over 600 Nm. Volvo so far refused to confirm plans to convert the concept into the production model. It is certain, however, that the Swedish manufacturer decided to bring refreshment when it comes to the design of its cars. In the company says that the styling elements that we see on this concept could be applied to new models, including the new XC90.
