Leica has introduced the first model of the company’s new line of digital compact cameras. The new camera is called the Leica C (C as “compact”) and was designed by Audi, who were also commissioned to develop the range of camera accessories. Created to combine a sophisticated feature package with a small form factor, this new camera is the first Leica to come with Wi-Fi and NFC, which allows for real-time viewing of images and videos from a smartphone or tablet.
Leica C is maybe too close to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1, which doesn’t surprise because they do have a contract. It shares its key specs with its less bling sibling. It features a 12 megapixel 1/1.7 inch (7.6 x 5.7 mm) MOS sensor, which is larger than normal for a point-and-shoot, as well as 7.1x zoom, Leica DC Vario-Summicron f2.0-5.9/6-42.8mm ASPH lens (28 – 200mm equivalent). It comes with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. You’ll also be able to shoot Full HD video.
Leica C will be available in two colorways: light gold and ivory, or bordeaux with black. the camera goes on sale in October for a price of $699.
