Take-Two Interactive’s Grand Theft Auto V grossed a record $1 Billion in just three days of sale, so it’s a rate faster than any other video game, film or other entertainment product has ever managed. According to earlier reports, the game raked in $800 million in just one day. “‘Grand Theft Auto‘ is a cultural phenomenon and Rockstar Games continues to redefine what can be achieved in interactive entertainment,” said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two. “We are incredibly proud of the extraordinary critical and commercial response to ‘Grand Theft Auto V.’
GTA V, the latest title in Take-Two’s storied video-game series, was released this past Tuesday. At the moment, it is available in versions for Sony’s PlayStation 3 console system and Microsoft’s Xbox 360. Due to its frequently violent, adult-themed content, it is rated “M” (Mature) by the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board).
This Most Expensive Video Game Ever (it cost a staggering £170 million ($266 million) to make and market) is expected to surpass $3 billion in sales over time.
