Kaleidescape is a California-based company that makes media servers for large and custom home theater systems. Its name is well-known among home theater installers, but has only gone into the consumer market with its simple-to-install and easy-to-use movie server – Cinema One. This impressive home theater component stores up to 600 DVD-quality or 100 Blu-ray quality movies and can play them instantly in the highest audio and video quality, and all that without previews, menus or ads. Also, a second Cinema One can be added to double the storage capacity and enable viewing of the combined library on a second television.
At 2.8 by 17 by 10 inches (HWD) and 10.2 pounds, this device is pretty huge. Its front panel is a glossy white framed with gray metal that covers the player’s body. The front holds a slot-loading Blu-ray drive and Eject, Power, and Source buttons, with a glowing Kaleidescape logo between them. It connects to any home automation system.
Kaleidescape‘s traditional products are expensive, like, $10,000 type expensive. Priced at $3,995, Cinema One is the company’s first product designed for retail distribution. But, it’s still not exactly accessible to the average consumer.
