Royal Caribbean International – the first cruise line to feature fully licensed, Tony Award-winning Broadway productions announced that company’s cruise ship – Quantum of the Seas will stage Broadway musical hit ‘Mamma Mia!’, when the ship debuts in the New York area next November. Royal Caribbean has been a leader in the recent trend of cruise lines bringing big name shows to ships. The musical, based on the songs of Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson , and performed by their supergroup ABBA, becomes the fourth fully licensed Broadway show to appear on a RCL ship. The previous ones included Chicago, Saturday Night Fever and Hairspray.

This ABBA’s performance tale of love, laughter and friendship unfolds on a Greek Island paradise where on the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago.
With its 167,800 tons, 4,180 passengers, 2,090 cabins including 373 virtual balconies inside cabins, Quantum of the Seas will be the new flagship in Royal Caribbean‘s fleet when it debuts in 2014 on a cruise from New York to the Caribbean. Guests will enjoy in plenty of innovative features, such as an indoor complex called SeaPlex which will host basketball, table tennis, trapeze instruction and bumper cars. But, the main attraction is the North Star observation pod, inspired by London’s Millennium Eye, which can hold up to 14 people at a height of 300 feet above sea level providing 360-degree views over the sides of the ship.
