The distinctive roof of the Sydney Opera House is covered with exactly 1,056,056 glazed white granite tiles imported from Sweden and arranged in 4,253 pre-cast lids. And, now 125,000 of this tiles are offered on “virtual” sale, priced between Aus$100-400 (US$91-365). So, anyone, anywhere in the world can be proud owner of the part of this Australian iconic landmark.
It works really simple, like any online game. Tile owners, known as “housemates”, will be able to choose their tile online, check out the view, personalise their tile with a photograph and short message, form or join virtual tile communities, visit their tile and share it through social media, as well as search for other housemates to see what they have done.
This innovative and hi-tech campaign called Own Our House is supported by actor Hugh Jackman and wife Deborra-Lee Furness, and other stars including Jack Thompson, Josh Pyke, Delta Goodrem, Matt Moran, Glen Hansard and The Frames and Diesel, who have already bought tiles.
