Dubai welcomed 2014 breaking Guinness World Record for the largest fireworks display ever. The glitzy Persian Gulf city blitzed the night sky with 500,000 fireworks which took six minutes to complete and cost of around $6 million (4.3 million euros). The show started 20 seconds before midnight local time, and covered 61.6 miles of the city’s seafront, the display incorporated some of Dubai’s top landmarks, including Palm Jumeirah, World Islands, the Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab. It was livestreamed on several news sites, and more than 1 million people watched live around Dubai.
“It is really mind-blowing the size of this,”said Barrett Wissman of IMG Artists, which managed the event. “It is a show of epic proportions.”
US firm Fireworks by Grucci designed the display, Guinness said, using 100 computers and 200 technicians who worked for 5,000 hours to ensure that the show goes off without a hitch in order to beat Kuwait’s 2012 world record launch of 77,282 fireworks.
