A bridal couple at a wedding venue in Ishikawa Prefecture got the wedding present worth 550,000 yen, or ($5,400). But what is actually interesting is that the present is a bunch of around 30 fresh, juicy Ruby Roman grapes. A wedding hall operator bought the grapes at auction on Saturday, the first day of the buying season in the prefecture, local media said. This bunch of 30 grapes has an approximate weight of 800 grams (28 ounces), and labeled as top-notch grapes, each grape individually costs a whopping $180. Each grape can reach 1.2 inches (3 cm in diameter).
Speaking to NHK hall owner said, “I was surprised to see a higher price than I had originally imagined, but I would like bridal couples to savor them and have a great memory.”
Around 30 bunches of Ruby Roman grapes were auctioned on Saturday and the first bunch reportedly fetched 100,000 yen ($980). There will be approximately 16,000 bunches of Ruby Romans set to be sold in Japan for this entire season only in Ishikawa.
