Famed shoe designer Christian Louboutin has joined the list of designers like Burberry, Tom Ford and Chanel to enter into beauty world with his first line of nail polishes. The first color from the collection, Rouge, will debut in department stores August 8. This luxury lacquer is encapsulated in a prismatic crystal bottle with a pointed cap that evokes the designer’s iconic 8-inch heel, the Ballerina Ultima (the exact height of the brand’s highest/tallest shoe designed in 2007). It will be followed by 30 colors due to hit retailers in August.
Early in his career, the designer famously grabbed some nail polish from an assistant and painted the sole of a shoe he was working on to make it more vibrant. And thus, his signature red sole was born.
According to Christian Louboutin, “The red sole was born from red nail polish. I am giving back to nails what the shoe took from the nails many years ago.”
The full nail polish range, which launches August 31, will include 30 colors in three different categories: Pops, Nudes and Noirs. For now, you can buy the line’s signature shade, Rouge Louboutin online and at Saks for $50, making it the most expensive nail polish in the luxury market right now (beating out Tom Ford’s polishes which are priced at the bargain bin rate of $32).
