Silvertop – Los Angeles` iconic home designed by John Lautner has just hit the market for the first time since 1974. Famous home which featured in many music videos, TV commercials and scenes from the ’80s movie “Less Than Zero”, can now be yours for $7,5 million. The home, which sits on 1.26 acres on the crest of a hill, has impressive design with interlocking half-circles, a massive, arched concrete roof over the living room (Lautner’s signatures).
The main house is about 4,720 square feet, with three bedrooms and four bathrooms, while the guesthouse, called the Round House, contains a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and a photography darkroom. There’s a workshop on the property, as well as infinity-edge swimming pool which was one of the first of its kind in 1956 when construction begun.
The construction of Silvertop was only supposed to cost $75,000, but it ended up being closer to $1 million.
Mary Burchill Maxson, the daughter of the owners, said her family watched with interest in the late 1950s as the home was being built in their Silver Lake neighborhood.
The project then sat unfinished for some time. When it became available through bankruptcy, Ms. Maxson’s parents, Philip and Jacklyn Burchill, bought the home, in 1974. They worked with Mr. Lautner to complete the home, then moved in 1976.
