Wine cellar of a villa in Rome, which was turned into an air raid shelter for former Italian dictator Benito Mussolini and his family is open for tourists. Wine cellar in a villa that belonged to a noble family before Mussolini moved in it was transformed into a shelter for the dictator in 1940, AP news agency reports. Now the owner of the villa is the city of Rome, and Mayor Ignazio Marino today visited the shelter which will open to the public for the first time on Oct. 31.
Tourists will be able to visit and concrete bunker that is somewhat later designed and built under the villa, according to the AP.
Mussolini was arrested in 1943, and later he was killed while fleeing Allied forces in April 1945, and his body strung up by the feet for public viewing in Milan.
