More than ten years after the last supersonic flight, comes the new generation of supersonic commercial aircraft, which reportedly flying at least two times faster than current commercial aircrafts. These aircraft will make their first appearance on the market, as private and corporate aircrafts and, given the astronomical prices, will be available only to the super-rich buyers. Airplane N + 2, a project of the US aerospace company “Lockheed Martin“, is designed for commercial airliners and should shorten the travel time from New York to Los Angeles in half, from five to two and a half hours.
The aircraft, for 80 passengers, would have three jet engines, whereby the single engine will be located on the upper side, and the other two under the wings. “To enable a revolutionary reduction in noise levels at airports in supersonic air transport, we have developed a completely new type of propulsion system,” explains Michael Buonano, head of NASA’s N + 2 program in the company “Lockheed Martin“.
Also, in Reno (Nevada) “Airbus” has established cooperation with the aeronautical company “Aerion” in order to create a supersonic plane, which for three hours can get from London to New York. It is estimated that Airbus AS2 will cost more than $ 100 million, and “Aerion” hope to begin test flights in 2019. Jet aircraft, which will fly between major metropolis, will be made largely of composite material made of carbon fiber. The wings are designed to reduce air resistance for a total of 20 percent, which ensures reduction of fuel consumption and longer range. In nine meters long and luxuriously equipped cabin will be room for 12 passengers.
