If you’re a big fan of the original Star Trek TV series, here is something special for you. A 47-year-old phaser prop used on the original Star Trek series by none other than Captain James T. Kirk himself is going to be auctioned, and it’s expected to fetch $60,000. This is one of only two phasers used on the original show that survive from the ’60s to this day. It was first used on a Star Trek episode that debuted in March 1968, putting it at the end of the second season. After the series was cancelled in 1969, most props and set pieces were thrown away, but this item made its way into the hands of a private collector.
While this exceptionally rare fiberglass Phaser pistol features some paint wear, surface scratches and some seam separation and missing knobs/accent pieces that is typical of rare screen used TOS memorabilia; it is undeniably a visually exciting, sturdily-constructed and highly presentable piece of Star Trek history. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this prop go for quite a bit more than the $60,000 expected price, if remember that a phaser rifle prop, also from the original series, sold for over $230,000 back in 2013. Trek fans are serious business when it comes to prop auctions.
