Breitling enters the smartwatch market with its B55 Connected device. Deliberately say device, because the B55 Connected isn’t a smartwatch like other companies have already unveiled. Rather it is Swiss timepiece based on Breitling’s Caliber B50 chronograph movement, but with some hi-tech and connected features designed for modern enthusiasts and collectors.
The B55 Connected will wirelessly communicate with your smartphone, but only to make the watch’s core functionality easier to use. That means, it will be able to pair with the Breitling smartphone app that lets you adjust the watch’s time to a new time zone, set alarms, and will also be able to backup the data in case you want to share it with other users. There’s no health monitoring, text notifications, social media updates, and more.
The simplicity is deliberate as Breitling states, “the chronograph remains the absolute master.”
Pricing and availability for Breitling’s new B55 Connected will most likely be revealed at Baselworld show in Swizerland from the 19 March. Until then, we can only conclude the rubber-style blue strap shown off in the press pics makes the overall look classic meets sporty.
