Armored Audi A8 L Security Car Combine Maximum Protection with Style and Luxury

If you fear for your life when on the road, an armored vehicle is the need for the hour really. But just because you’re scared, doesn’t mean you can’t remain stylish. And for that style icon in you, Audi will soon launch the A8 L Security, a car that’s designed to repel just about any grenade you could throw or bullet you could shoot at it. Produced in a heavily guarded section of a secure workshop (no cell phones allowed), the A8 L Security is an armor-plated luxury sedan certified by the German government for compliance with the VR 7 ballistic protection standard. Basically, that means this A8 L is capable of taking numerous rifle bullets and small explosive hits such as hand grenades and anti-tank mines.

The German car manufacturer says the new armored Audi A8L Security has around 720 kilograms (1,587.33 lb) of interior armoring and a lot of extra safety equipment. These new security features of the armored Audi A8L include an emergency exit system, a new fire extinguisher system activated by heat sensors, an emergency fresh-air system equipped with two oxygen cartridges and a smoke extractor for the passenger compartment. The armored Audi A8L Security also has various other safety systems, some of which being kept a close secret.

The car will spot strategically placed armored steel, aramide fabrics, ceramic plates, special alloyed aluminum, and multilayer glass on the vehicle. And to ensure a smooth ride with all that pent up weight, the steering, chassis, and brakes have also been altered. The wheel will feature synthetic rims to maintain speeds up to 50 mph even if the tires have been burst. The A8 security also features a two-way communication system allows passengers in the A8 L Security to communicate with the outside world when the windows are closed, so you can shout at people who are shooting at you.

Despite all the post-apocalyptic preparations, the car hasn’t forgotten it’s luxury origins as it comes nicely equipped with four-zone climate control, a Bose audio system, a TV tuner, and two individual rear seats with power adjustments. Additionally, customers can order a full-length center console, a refrigerator, a rear seat entertainment system, and a “relaxation seat” with heating, massage, and a power-adjustable footrest.

Powering the armored car is a 6.3-liter W-12 engine routing 500 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque are sent to all four wheels through Audi’s quattro drivetrain. A sprint from 0 to 62 mph can be accomplished in 7.3 ticks – 2.6 seconds slower than a stock model – with a top speed of 130 mph. Despite its increased weight, the armored A8 L still manages a respectable 17 mpg, giving it a range over 400 miles.

The Audi A8 L Security will be available this summer with Audi offering training programs for those interested. With so many options and customization possibilities, Audi doesn’t offer a price on its armored A8 L, but can one really put a price on safety?
