Azzam – world’s largest yacht has been officially launched by Lürssen, the German luxury boat builder in the water near its Bremen, Germany facility. A 590-foot (180-meter) vessel exceeded Roman Abramovich’s yacht Eclipse, which previously held the title of world’s largest yacht, measures 538 feet long.
Luxury private ship is also among the fastest and can pull 30 knots (34.5mph). The person who commissioned the massive construction remains unknown, but industry sources say the owner is likely the royal family of the United Arab Emirates, who supposedly paid a whopping $627.4 million for it.
According to Lürssen, the engineer’s brief was “to build a large luxury yacht with an innovative and timeless design that would be able to travel at high speed in warm and shallow waters, whilst providing luxurious and sophisticated accommodation to its guests”.
There are no immediate descriptions available of the interior, though we know it’s in the hands of French interior designer Christophe Leoni, who’s using a “turn of the century Empire style.” Some of the additional details include a main salon with a length of 29 m and a beam of 18m with an open plan and no pillars.
Peter Lürssen of Lürssen Yachts described the yacht as “a milestone in not only our history but yachting history as well”.
Azzam will go through sea trials later this summer and will be delivered to its owner later this year.
