David Geffen’s Rising Sun Yacht
Music mogul David Geffen is now the sole owner of Rising Sun, the world’s sixth largest yacht, having seized control from co-owner Larry Ellison. In 2004 the German Lurssen shipyard launched one of the largest superyachts in the world, the 456 ft. Jon Bannenberg designed Rising Sun. She was commissioned by well known yachtsman Larry Ellison and nearly 4 years ago David Geffen joined Larry Ellison as co-owner of Rising Sun.
Considerably bigger than other billionaire boats like Paul Allen’s Octopus, the Rising Sun has in excess of 8,000m² of living space with 82 rooms across five decks. Onyx countertops, a gymnasium, spa, sauna, wine cellar, private cinema, and basketball court that converts to a helipad are some of the fancy touches. Cost about $250 million to build, mega yacht Rising Sun are powered with four MTU 20V 8000 M90 diesel engines with a combined output of 50,000 hp that move the massive yacht along at up to 28 knots.
Rising Sun is currently back at the Lurssen shipyard in Germany where she is undergoing some modifications and Larry Ellison will soon take delivery of his new 88 metre superyacht.
