Though Chris Brown’s name remains tarnished with the incident of violence he had with his ex-girlfriend Rihanna, this time he makes the headlines due to his Limited Edition Collectibles and Toy range, launched in joint partnership with artist Ron English. Called Dum English, the pair’s exclusive line of collectible toys and unique art sculptures will launch in Los Angeles on May 2. This idea of jointly producing these collectible toys emerge after Chris decided to diversify his venture, mechanicaldummy.com, and include unique products which would feature on his blog before anyone else can get the news of it.
Roping in sculpture manufacturers Garageworks Industries and vinyl toy production house Made by Monsters, the line includes a toy necklace chain for $75, a $140 10″ vinyl figure and a four-foot life-size fiberglass sculpture priced at $20,000. Also, only a 1,000 pieces of the toy series and 20 pieces of the fiberglass pieces will be created.
English is an influential pop-art creator who is known for his mashed-up toy sculptures, like the Incredible Barack Obama, and innovative street artwork. He also illustrated Brown’s cover art for his last album F.A.M.E.
Brown and English will showcase their work at the Corey Helford Gallery in CulverCity, L.A., on May 2 from 6-8 p.m. Proceeds from sales at the combination VIP art exhibit/media event will benefit Brown’s Symphonic Love foundation, which provides support and funding for arts programs dedicated to women and the artistic development of children. Brown and English will also paint together on a life-size Dum English astronaut sculpture in front of guests.
