At the end of 2010, Garmin has launched its first golf watch, the Approach S1, and now has unveiled its new Approach S3 touchscreen GPS golf watch. It builds on the GPS technology in previous versions, but the main change is that this GPS-enabled gadget adds a touchscreen to the mix and now provides users with data on 27,000 golf courses across the globe, which can be updated periodically (for free).
Garmin Approach S3 Touchscreen GPS Golf Watch aims to provide you with an edge over your opponents. It is fitted with a new Green View that allows you to see a true representation of the current green, and the flag can be adjusted for the current day’s pin placement with the simple tap of the touchscreen. This Approach S3 Touchscreen GPS Golf Watch will show you a lot of useful data such as layup distances, green overviews and precise yardages to the front, back and middle of the next green. Scores can be kept in Stroke Play and Stableford game types.
The Approach S3 weighs just 2 ounces and its screen is easy to read in any conditions including bright sunlight. The waterproof wristwatch includes rechargeable battery which is enough for eight hours of playing time in GPS mode or up to four weeks as an everyday watch.
With its new features, like the innovative Green View, digital scoring and design of the glove-friendly touchscreen, the Approach S3 creates a new advantage for golfers all over the world. It’s light-weight, it includes a round timer to keep track of time played and the color options will make it a talking point on and off the course, explains Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales.
Garmin Approach S3 Touchscreen GPS golf watch comes in 2 colors combinations: white with red trim and black with gray trim. The screen’s background colors can be set to white or black. It ships later this month, priced at $350. There’s also a cheaper, non-touchscreen option for $250, but that one is for those in North America which comes loaded with more than 18,000 U.S. and Canadian courses.
