One of the World’s Largest Pearls
One of the world’s largest pearl will be offered on April 20, 2011 at Christie’s spring jewelry sale in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Christie’s is showcasing a collection of pearls, diamonds, gems and gold jewelry ahead of the sale that will bring back Dubai’s nostalgic past as a major pearl hunting hub.
The drop-shaped pearl mounted as a pendant on a diamond-studded chain necklace will be the most interesting piece on sale this year. The 60-carat pearl, which is one of the largest natural saltwater pearls recorded to date, is estimated to fetch up to $250,000 in the next month’s auction.
Christie`s spring auction in Dubai will present nearly one hundred jewelry lots ranging from an elephant-shaped gem ring worth $4,000-$6,000 to a diamond flower necklace which converts into a tiara with matching earrings worth $450,000-$550,000.
Christie’s has sold more than $200 million worth of art and jewelry since the start of its twice-annual inaugural auction in its only Middle East office in Dubai. [Christie’s]
