Glenmorangie Pride 1981
For the whisky aficionado, Glenmorangie distillery in the Scottish Highlands has announce new limited release, the Pride 1981, which is its most rare and luxurious single malt offering to date. Only 1,000 bottles will be produced and each is to be sold at $3,600.
The exceptional whisky was matured in the finest oak casks for 18 years. Patience willed out and after another 10 years, 28 years, 9 months and 11 days in total, Glenmorangie Pride 1981 was born. The exact birth date of the whisky was the result of careful monitoring of the casks for flavor. Eventually, the samplings came as frequently as every three months in the last years before it was bottled. Everything is all about the taste, Dr. Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s master distiller and head of whisky creation, says. Age is only one part of the story. I’m sure the marketing people would have preferred I waited until it was 30 years old, but we pulled it in 2009.
Glenmorangie Pride 1981 has an intense, deep gold color. Its aromas include apple tart with Demerara sugar and nutmeg underpinned by musky oak tones. The addition of water releases a collection of exotic fruits and spices. There is also a backnote of oak tannins with hints of toast and mineral notes. The finish is long, succulent and sweet with hints of Sultanas, toasted almonds, lemon and coconut.
Renowned artist Laurence Brabant has designed the Baccarat crystal decanter for the malt. Each decanter comes individually numbered and personally signed by Dr. Lumsden. The decanter is housed in a beautifully crafted wooden case. [Glenmorangie]
