McLaren M26 Formula 1 car from 1977, driven by James Hunt, was sold at auction in Charlotte, North Carolina, for $1,200,000. It should be noted that Hunt made its last win in his career in Japan in 1977 in this car. James Hunt, winner of the Formula One championship in 1976, was equally known on the track and outside. His life was recently re- actualized in the film “Rush“, which talks about his rivalry with Niki Lauda. Unfortunately, Hunt in 1993 died of a heart attack in his 45 year.
M26 is the successor of the M23 car, in which Hunt won the championship title. The car was powered by a 3.0 -liter Cosworth DFV V8 engine with 525 Hp. Formula 1 cars rarely come to auction, so this was a debut appearance on an M26. Reached price was not bad, although many predicted a much higher price.
