With just over a week left until the new Star Wars movie – The Last Jedi, a unique set of banknotes packed with hidden features is set to be released. This marks the 40th anniversary of the Star Wars films, first released in 1977. Just one thousand copies of the note will be sold on eBay.
The notes are being auctioned to raise money for UK children’s charity Together for Short Lives and feature the same level of security and detail found in legal tender.
The bills are printed by currency maker De La Rue, on real cotton paper using the same techniques as actual currency. For example, some features are only visible under UV light, while others “are quite obvious,” according to De La Rue’s creative director Julian Payne.
The first 1,000 going on the block December 8 with “buy now” price of £100 ($177), while an additional 50 hand-printed, serialized notes will go on sale “over the following 10 days,” according to news.com.au.
One hundred per cent of proceeds go towards funding a network of hospices around the UK run by Together for Short Lives.
