Limited Edition Steve McQueen Sunglasses Collection
In 2006, one of Steve McQueen’s personal pairs of Persol sunglasses was auctioned off for $70,000. That pair, with its trademark McQueen blue lenses, tortoise housing, and collapsible body, was relegated to the wet dreams of eBay hounds and, well, people that can pay seventy grand for sunglasses. But this October, Persol is unveiling a brand-new line of classic McQueen 714s eyewear.
An updated version of the brand’s PO0714 model in tortoiseshell fitted with the King of Cool’s custom blue lenses will be available in exclusive Sunglass Hut stores nationwide for acceptable $360. In addition to the blue crystal lenses, the new 714’s have an updated folding mechanism and McQueen’s signature emblazoned on the inside of the temple arm as well as on the elegant accompanying leather case.
The frame comes from a single piece of acetate, broken at three points for the hinges. They then go through a finishing process that creates a seamless silhouette and extra comfortable body. Available in black/green, tortoise/brown, and brown/silver, all crafted from the finest of materials and staying true to the originals. The lenses feature high quality brown crystal glass that provide the clearest possible vision and are incredibly thin, light and comfortable. The collection is based on McQueen’s three favorite color ways and limited to 10,000 handmade pieces.
