A hackney or hackney carriage – London’s iconic black taxi cab can now be yours for $40,000. This famous cab that plied the streets of London over a quarter of a century ago is offered on sale at Hammacher Schlemmer. Designed with a high degree of English sensibility, this version is a fully restored and overhauled Fairway from the 1980s. Described as a limousine in a smaller size, it features a three-seat rear bench and two rear-facing fold-down seats to comfortably ride a driver and up to six passengers.
With a 2.7-liter Nissan diesel engine that allows it to drive at U.S. speed limits, three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes, a hackney is updated to modern standards. Additional updates include rich leather upholstery, tinted glass, an extra front seat, mahogany door capping the rear parking sensor, chrome fenders, and air conditioning.
