Marc Quinn’s “Microcosmos (Siren)” sculpture from 2008 of supermodel Kate Moss in a contorted yoga pose, composed of ten kilos of 18-carat gold, has sold for £577,250 at Sotheby’s. This time, it’s not a gold, but the actors are same. Marc Quinn’s “Caryatid” sculpture that shows Kate Moss in the same yoga pose, dressed in a leotard, but with red lips, will be offered at Bonham’s Contemporary Art & Design sale in London on 11th October. This unique work is estimated to fetch £50,000 – £70,000 ($80,000 – $110,000)!
Young British Artist, Quinn experiences Kate Moss as timeless icon for our age, and she is his greatest muse. “She is a contemporary version of the Sphinx. When people look back at this time she’ll be the archetypal image, just as Louise Brooks was in the 1920s,” he said in 2006.
Quinn’s “Caryatid” was created in 2008 and although it was originally part of an edition of 7, this work is the only example with red painted lips.
