Tom Cruise Hangs Out Dubai’s Burj Khalifa
The Burj Khalifa in Dubai is an iconic structure in itself, and 48 year old action star just made it more special. Tom Cruise shocked onlookers this weekend as he hung from spindly wires outside the tallest building in the world while filming Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol.
Tom’s death-defying stunt was staged 124 floors up, the equivalent of 189 double-decker buses stacked on top of each other. Cameras on a helicopter hovering 10ft away caught the incredible action. The actor has filmed many of his own stunts during the Mission Impossible run, with his reputation, Ethan Hunt, expected to dangle from mountainsides and go tricks on motorbikes even as simultaneously avoiding being killed by the terrible guys.
Jeremy Renner, Tom Cruise and Paula Patton at news conference for Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol in Dubai
Cruise joined co-stars Jeremy Renner and Paula Patton at the newly opened Armani hotel to announce the name of the fourth installment in the franchise. Scenes from the Mission Impossible 4 have also been shot in Russia, Canada and the Czech Republic. But director Brad Bird appeared most excited about filming in Dubai. We love the fact that it’s a big, new city, that it hasn’t been photographed very much, he said at press conference. It’s almost like sets that you could never afford.
Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol is set for release on Dec. 16, 2011.
