Rancho San Carlos, mega-property in Montecito, has been listed for $125 million. A 237-acre property is one of the largest residential properties in the affluent oceanfront community and its price makes it the most expensive ever to list in Montecito. Rancho San Carlos has views of the surrounding mountains and ocean, as well as 11 homes on the property, a small office building, an English-style pub, barn and stable, outdoor stable and covered horse riding arena and 100 acres of citrus and avocado orchards.
“It’s almost like a small city,” said listing agents Suzanne Perkins and Harry Kolb of Sotheby’s International Realty. The 30,000 square-foot main house is built around a courtyard and features a secret tower office that can only be accessed via the master suite. It features 12 bedrooms, and 10 full and three half bathrooms. The property is on land owned by the same family since 1927, said Jim Jackson, whose grandparents, rancher and property investor Charles H. Jackson, Jr. and his wife Ann, bought the land in the late 1920s and built the house. Charles died in the 1970s and his wife in 1990, Mr. Jackson said. Since then the family has maintained the property, but hasn’t used the main house as a full-time residence.
